This project took place between 2010-2011. The overall objective of this project was to raise awareness and to reduce gender inequalities in order to empower Turkish Cypriot (TC) women to take more of a leadership role in their communities.<\/p>\n

The project was able to:<\/p>\n

  1. Establish a profile of Turkish Cypriot women which aims to identify key population characteristics in terms of strengths and weaknesses in areas such as<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Self Esteem ; Gender Roles ; Goal Setting; Political Awareness ; Stereotypes; Domestic Violence ; Women\u2019s Rights; Social Roles; Equal Opportunities; Nationalism ; <\/em>To provide targeted training to a group of sixty women from various geographical locations in Northern Cyprus in order to address issues and weaknesses identified in the research profile.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Establish a women\u2019s network group and increase linkages between women organisations and committees in Northern Cyprus and other organisations within the European Women\u2019s movement. The network group will be called KADA\u011e (KADIN AGI \u2212 meaning women\u2019s net<\/em>).<\/li>\n
    2. Increase media coverage on the theme of gender issues and gender equality across Northern Cyprus.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      To raise public awareness of the profile of TC women, women rights and the historical women\u2019s movement of Turkish Cypriot women.<\/p>\n

      The ETIK project research study is still used commonly in feminist debate in northern Cyprus highlighting how deeply integrated gender roles are in the Turkish Cypriot Community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This project took place between 2010-2011.
